The Magic of Glass

I am Nina, my passion is creating unique pieces of wearable art (or jewellery) from my home-studio in Hertfordshire.

Why ‘Alchemy’?

The process of fusing glass – or heating different layers of glass in a kiln until it becomes red and then white hot and molten –  is an almost magical art. It can be controlled to a certain extent, but each time something slightly different occurs. The mystery of the whole process is that until it has completely cooled down again and you open the kiln, you don’t know what treasures will await you! No two pieces are ever alike, which makes creating matching earrings a real lottery!

I started fusing glass as a hobby, and it quickly became a passion – I became obsessed with it and spent more and more time in my studio. I wore my pieces of jewellery, then friends (and strangers) asked me where I had found them and commissioned me to make some for them. Before I knew it I was selling at Art Fairs and markets, and online. I also sell from the Hertford Information Tourist Office, and the Courtyard Arts centre in Hertford (* both currently closed due to Covid). Have a browse of some of my creations here!

I was then interested to see how I could combine my glass with Silver, took some silver-smithing courses, and am now also producing some original silver pieces.

I normally sell my pieces at Art fairs and Christmas markets from November onwards, around the Hertfordshire countryside and London, however in 2020 there are few live markets due to the Pandemic, so please contact me direct via my website or Facebook/Instagram (both of which are updated regularly).

In the meantime, if you see anything you just adore on this website or on my Facebook or Instagram feeds, please message me and I’ll tell you the price, and can post it to you. By the way, they are really tough and solid, glass is much stronger once it has been fused – think of a marble.
